As technological advancement continues to evolve, so do healthcare providers and organizations in collecting, analyzing, and leveraging critical data, which in turn influences the delivery of healthcare services. One of the essential areas of healthcare that informatics has played a significant role in is nursing care.
Informatics assists professionals in the nursing department to operate with accuracy plus communicate patient’s care and data. As direct caregivers, nurses usually experience the intensity of changes immediately, unlike other professionals in healthcare. Informatics has played a significant role in the revolution of healthcare delivery. One of the visible ways is documentation (Wang et al., 2019). Gone is the era whereby pinned paper charts incorporating handwritten notes for regular updates. Instead, technology has made it possible for the info to be fed into electronic health records and other systems used in storing patient’s medical records. This has enabled patients and physicians’ easy access to databases with updated medical history.
In addition, research shows that healthcare information and 3 management systems electronic charting has paved the way to the obtaining of quick and timely information, thus improving the daily workflow in healthcare organizations. Some of the clinical and administrative problems linked to informatics are medical errors, Medicaid and Medicare reimbursement, medical records retrieval, and safety and quality delivery of care (Hübner et al., 2018). Medical mistakes during care delivery such as wrong prescription, misdiagnosis, and false medical state information may cause other medical disorders or n the worst-case scenario, cause death. In this case, health informatics assist in the reduction of medical mistakes and error frequency.
Today, physicians evaluate and record patient’s health in electronic databases, which help medical practitioners to know the previous diagnosis in the case of relapse. For a patient to receive Medicaid or Medicare reimbursement, medical practitioners must comply with the recording and storing the patient’s medical history. In addition, physicians are required to fill in electronic forms showing the patient received care. Therefore, it improves the flow of information between the government and the doctor. Previously, the retrieval of medical records was hectic due to the patient’s files; therefore, it took a long to retrieve critical medical information (Al-Hawamdih et al, 2018).
Health informatics has enabled the retrieval and easy access of patient’s information. The safety and quality of healthcare delivery are achieved since before this technology, patients’ medical records were lost or stolen, thus, posing a risk to the delivery of care. In conclusion, some of the solutions are regular software updates and compatibility, offering training to medical practitioners on the need to safeguard patients’ critical health information. The other remedy is ensuring that procedures and electronic records are utilized to diagnose patients to reduce the occurrence of medical errors. 4 Yours Grateful, 5 References Al-Hawamdih, S., & Ahmad, M.
