Original post: In the nursing profession, data is very important in evaluating health outcomes in professional settings and at the national level. The reason why this is the case is that key performance indicators [kpis] used in nursing facilities, and hospitals are dependent on data so that the management and operatives could be aware that they are doing well or otherwise when it comes to the achievement of set goals (Zhu et al., 2019). For example, within my work environment as a nurse, some of the things that we search for in large pools of data include Patient length of Stay, the rates of readmission, the rate at which medication errors are committed, the rate of patient falls, turnover numbers, and good reviews from patients. From the above indicators, it is possible to tell whether a nursing facility realizes improved patient healthcare outcomes. For instance, cases of increased patient length of Stay [plos] and high rates of readmission demonstrate that everyone at a hospital should do better with respect to continuous improvement(Zhu et al., 2019). Therefore, data in the work environment is important as it is used as a wake-up call for management and operatives to do better. At the national level, datahas also proven to be important in evaluating health outcomes. For instance, national bodies such as the CDC, the American Nursing Association, American Psychological Association, and Doctors Without Borders are successful today because of collecting, pooling, and interpreting data regarding health outcomes (Brennan & Bakken, 2015). Recently, as the prevalence of the coronavirus pandemic became very high, the CDC used data on new cases to tell if it is doing exceptionally well in distributing vaccines, medicines, and treatment of cases. Overall, it is worth mentioning that the importance of data in healthcare settings cannot be overlooked.
