Academic success, as well as mental health and suicidal behavior, are all influenced by peer connections, teachers, and families during the school years. Regardless of academic performance, adolescence is associated with significant psychological discomfort. Adolescents experience stress whether they are performing well academically or not (Chavan, 2017). Suicide rates among children and adolescents have risen steadily in recent years, highlighting the need for school-based suicide prevention programs.

Conducting a suicide assessment, a sort of psychiatric evaluation aimed at evaluating a person’s suicidal risk and developing a personalized treatment plan, is one of the first interventions a nurse can make. This information should be gathered from the patient, as well as their family and friends. School nurses (SNs) are in a unique position to help with risk assessment, early detection, and intervention for at-risk pupils (Ratnapalan, 2010). Providing a secure atmosphere, implementing a no-suicide contract, establishing a support system, and assuring careful supervision are all part of the nursing care strategy for suicidal patients.

Because children and adolescents spend so much time in schools, schools can be an excellent place to introduce suicide prevention initiatives (Ross, Kolves, & De Leo, 2017). Currently, a range of school-based suicide prevention programs are being used to encourage risk factor and warning sign education for students and/or school employees, screening to identify individuals at risk for suicide, or reacting to those expressing suicidal tendencies.
