Assisted Suicide and Aid in Dying Paper 3

You have had an opportunity to review the ethical position statements of the American Nurses Association. These position statements are reviewed from time to time. In June of 2018, the ANA Membership Assembly met to discuss changes, if any, to the ANA position statement Euthanasia, Assisted Suicide and Aid in Dying.

Read the debate session overview.

Assignment

Read the ANA position statement on Euthanasia, Assisted Suicide and Aid in Dying posted in Module 8. Choose one of the 4 options proposed in the debate session overview that you think is the best of the four position statements. Address each issue below.
Explain the basis for your choice and include how the option you selected fits with your world view.
Identify ethical systems/principles/values that support your option; identify any systems/principles/values that could be sited in opposition to your choice.
In addition to sources in this course, use at least 2 of the references from the debate session overview to support your decision.
The Current ANA Position Statement,

“Although a nurse’s participation in aid in dying has been prohibited by law and professional nursing ethics codes, numerous studies have shown that over the past 20 years 1%-18% of nurses provided or prescribed drugs to a patient knowing the patient intended to use them to hasten death or intentionally injected drugs to hasten a patient’s death” (Stokes, 2017).

If you believe the idea that a changing trend and more people doing something is not the basis for change, defend your position. If you believe, more people doing something is a good reason to support the activity, defend your position.

ORDER CUSTOM, PLAGIARISM-FREE PAPER

You must proofread your paper. But do not strictly rely on your computer’s spell-checker and grammar-checker; failure to do so indicates a lack of effort on your part and you can expect your grade to suffer accordingly. Papers with numerous misspelled words and grammatical mistakes will be penalized. Read over your paper – in silence and then aloud – before handing it in and make corrections as necessary. Often it is advantageous to have a friend proofread your paper for obvious errors. Handwritten corrections are preferable to uncorrected mistakes.

Use a standard 10 to 12 point (10 to 12 characters per inch) typeface. Smaller or compressed type and papers with small margins or single-spacing are hard to read. It is better to let your essay run over the recommended number of pages than to try to compress it into fewer pages.

Likewise, large type, large margins, large indentations, triple-spacing, increased leading (space between lines), increased kerning (space between letters), and any other such attempts at “padding” to increase the length of a paper are unacceptable, wasteful of trees, and will not fool your professor.

The paper must be neatly formatted, double-spaced with a one-inch margin on the top, bottom, and sides of each page. When submitting hard copy, be sure to use white paper and print out using dark ink. If it is hard to read your essay, it will also be hard to follow your argument.
