EDU 551 Bosworth Clinical Field Experience Paper

Collaboration between peers and professional educational colleagues is one of the best ways to support all students throughout their educational journey. Understanding and observing instructional practices of colleagues allows curriculum experts to collect data that can be shared with the instructor to promote student academic success.

Allocate at least 4 hours in the field to support this field experience.

Observe your mentor teacher during whole group or small group instruction for a minimum of two lessons. Your observations should include the students administered the learning style inventory in the Topic 2. Take note of how the teacher differentiated the lesson for small groups and the individual students in your chosen group. Observe whether these students were prepared for the lesson and their level of interest in the material.

After each observation, discuss the following with your mentor:

How did you prepare the lesson to differentiate instruction for individual students and groups of students based on learning preferences and learning styles?
How did you ensure student readiness according to developmental and performance levels of students before and during the lesson?
How did you promote student interest in the topic before and during instruction?
What technology resources were used to aid in differentiating instruction, promoting student learning, and student ownership of learning?
After the first observation, what changes will you make to future lessons based on the successes or failures of this lesson? Provide the mentor with suggestions based on your own observations.
Following the second observation, what changes will you make to the lesson based on the discussion and suggestions from the first observation?
Use any remaining field experience hours to assist the teacher in providing instruction and support to the class.

Write a 250-500 word summary of the lessons being taught and interviews. Describe how you would further differentiate these lessons for the students identified in Topic 2. How will you apply the concepts of student interest, ownership of learning, and differentiation to your future professional practice?

Submit your reflection and interview responses to the LMS.

You must proofread your paper. But do not strictly rely on your computer’s spell-checker and grammar-checker; failure to do so indicates a lack of effort on your part and you can expect your grade to suffer accordingly. Papers with numerous misspelled words and grammatical mistakes will be penalized. Read over your paper – in silence and then aloud – before handing it in and make corrections as necessary. Often it is advantageous to have a friend proofread your paper for obvious errors. Handwritten corrections are preferable to uncorrected mistakes.

Use a standard 10 to 12 point (10 to 12 characters per inch) typeface. Smaller or compressed type and papers with small margins or single-spacing are hard to read. It is better to let your essay run over the recommended number of pages than to try to compress it into fewer pages.

Likewise, large type, large margins, large indentations, triple-spacing, increased leading (space between lines), increased kerning (space between letters), and any other such attempts at “padding” to increase the length of a paper are unacceptable, wasteful of trees, and will not fool your professor.

The paper must be neatly formatted, double-spaced with a one-inch margin on the top, bottom, and sides of each page. When submitting hard copy, be sure to use white paper and print out using dark ink. If it is hard to read your essay, it will also be hard to follow your argument.
