Nursing in Healthcare

English Composition

Question 1: Think about a clinical decision support used in clinical practice. How is the decision support–system tool being used in practice? How is this tool supposed to be used? Is there a way for a nurse to not use the tool correctly and then to decrease the purpose and safety of the decision support system? Answer: Question 2: If you were responsible for orienting new staff members to your unit, what would you want to teach them that would help them avoid alarm fatigue and practice in a safe and ethical manner? Answer: Discussion 1: As a nursing student, I was always taught my ABC’s (airway breathing and circulation). In my every day nursing, those same rules apply. Maria being bought to the emergency room after found in a pool of blood, crying and holding her abdomen alerts me to first find the bleeding. I will assess where the bleeding is coming from, is it vaginal or rectal and is it active bleeding. Homework: Nursing Health Assessment
According to Jarvis (2016), when assessing the abdomen, you should inspect, auscultate, percuss then palpate. After determining where Maria is bleeding, I would get the bleeding under control. I will then get a licensed interpreter to help get some information on Maria to help with her assessment. I will inspect the abdomen for distention, symmetrical, and peristalsis, auscultate for positive bowels (hyperactive/hypoactive) or absent, percuss and palpate for any tenderness, masses and possible organmegaly. When planning care Maria, I would take into consideration her cultural beliefs/practices. As a Syrian refugee, I will always provide Maria with a female provider, caretaker, make she has a long gown for modesty, try and avoid questions that ask about sex, sexual problems or STD’s. Homework: Nursing Health Assessment
I will explain the importance of obtaining answers to sexually related questions pertaining to this ER visit to help diagnose her current problem. I will also try and provide much of an Islamic meal, during her hospital if not ask family or friends to bring from home/shelter. Always take into consideration of your patient’s cultural beliefs, its helps build a rapport with your patients, they trust you and know that you are there for them. I believe Maria’s status as a refugee has contributed to her current condition. She is homeless and had a lack of medical attention. She has no support system (family), probably scared and fearful of migration to another country. Answer: Discussion 2: My thesis is why do people use fad diets? Most of my research has stated that people use these diets as a quick and easy way to lose weight. I am sure many people can oppose my statements that I will be writing in my paper. Johnson-Sheehan & Paine (2013). “You need to imagine their possible objections and misunderstandings.” (p. 449). An oppositional point of view for my paper would be stating that these diets are not quick and easy and that it still takes time and effort in losing weight while using fad diets. To continue a rebuttal when talking about fad diets, people could also say that these diets are expensive and can also cause unpleasant side effects. Homework: Nursing Health Assessment
Fad diets are also not quick, because they can take up to a month before seeing results. Discussion is also made with using prescription medications to lose weight, these may not be as easy as I claim them to be. Sometimes there can be terrible side effects that go along with using prescription medications, so this should not be considered easy. Answer: Discussion 2: According to Johnson-Sheehan and Paine, summarizing opposing viewpoints will lay out points you can refute, allow your readers to consider both sides of the argument, and will make you look more reasonable (Gardner, 2015). Through the discussions in this class, a common opposition to my thesis: the number of teens getting pregnant would decrease if all forms of birth control, including long-acting reversible contraceptives were made readily available to teens, is that we should be teaching teens abstinence instead of supplying them contraceptives. My rebuttal to this is as follows: Critics of providing teens with easier access to all forms of birth control argue that abstinence should be taught to our teens instead of making access to birth control readily available. However, abstinence only education programs have been around for years, but studies of these programs have shown them to be ineffective in preventing premarital sex (Gill, 2015). After all, teens are by nature, impulsive and risk-taking. Many don’t take the “pledges” they are encouraged to sign at the end of the abstinence only education seriously. These programs often don’t include education about safe-sex practices as they teach that abstinence is the only effective means of preventing pregnancy, and even teaches that other forms of contraception is “ineffective” (Gardner, 2015). This leaves the teen confused and uneducated about birth control methods. Answer: Discussion 3: I believe that there is a place for graphs and charts in some research, however, I do not think they belong in all. If you are presenting a research project with many statistical elements I would certainly include a graph or chart to show this information. Johnson-Sheehan & Paine (2013). Homework: Nursing Health Assessment
“A line graph is a good way to show measurements of trends over time.” (p. 384). Sometimes visual elements can detract from an authors research and writing because people will focus on the visual elements and may skim through the important part of the reading available. I will not be adding any graphs or charts to my writing, nor will I be using any images. I do not believe that my paper is the type of argumentative writing that these types of designs are useful in. As I stated earlier, I do not necessarily think they are a bad thing, I just don’t need them in my writing. Answer: Discussion 3: I think that visual elements could both enhance or detract depending on how they are used. I have to say I never would have thought about using visuals until we read this chapter. Generally I love to add charts and props and things when I’m doing a presentation because I like things to be interactive and I feel that people learn things better that way, but why not add it to a paper, also? Some of the same concepts will apply. Homework: Nursing Health Assessment
The pictures and/or graphs could really emphasize a statement that I will be making. The trick would be to find something that is eye catching and memorable, that will help convince people that an argument is valid. Statistics of people who have died or pictures of those injured after being hit by a drunk driver might strengthen an argument against drunk driving and convince others that there is a need to enact stricter drunk driving laws and punishments. My guess is that visuals could be used if they strengthen the claim of almost any argument. Homework: Nursing Health Assessment
The visuals that would probably work the best for data would be line graphs, bar charts, tables, and then diagrams and pie charts. I’m not sure if I will add graphs, charts, or images. I might. This gave me some food for thought. I’m not sure if I can do it within the time constraints of the paper and the short amount of time that is left. I need to feel inspiration to add some graphics otherwise it won’t make sense. I also am not entirely sure how to formulate this into the paper itself when we are being graded on APA style. I have noticed that everything has gotten easier since I started this class as far as writing and citing and sharing ideas and thoughts, so it is something that I will consider if time allows.
