Once someone had mentioned Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin we all agreed and we’re excited to get in contact with them. Chosen Organization: Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin How Feeding America Operates across the U.S •It is a non-profit making organization that fights against hunger in Eastern Wisconsin. How the Organization started in Wisconsin

•Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin started in 1982 by a public affairs professor at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee named Dr. Milton J. Huber, he mentioned to the Rotary Club of Milwaukee to start a food bank project. •Main intent with the organization was to reduce food waste by connecting food resources to those facing hunger. •Patti Habeck is the president and CEO of the organization. How the Organization started in Wisconsin (continued) Background Information on Hunger in Wisconsin •700,000 people in Wisconsin who go through food insecurity •Those who face hunger are found everywhere, in rural areas, cities, or suburbs •The most vulnerable when it comes to not having food on hand are the elder and kids.

This is because without proper nutrition they don’t develop emotionally, physically, mentally. •”1 in 5 children face hunger” – Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin •With regards to the elder, those who don’t have food on hand is expected to increase by 50% by 2025 MARIH Mission •Every human has a right to obtain an adequate amount of food with dignity. Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin operates to prevent hunger as well as malnutrition by offering nutritious food to disadvantaged communities. •Also encourages people to eat healthy foods by choosing the right types and amounts of foods to eat. Improving nutrition amongst the kids around the region, the homeless society and adults living in abject poverty. How to Achieve the Mission •Contact Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin and attend our chosen volunteering date hosted by the organization on April 4th, 2020. •Our team was assigned to sort, label and package foods that will then be distributed to families. Activities •Food delivery services in association with other federal nutrition assistance organizations. •Supplies affiliated charities with nutritious food (Person, 2020). •Produce farms for fruits and vegetables as well as fishhatchery (Snyder, 2013).

•Advocate for child nutrition reauthorization. Benefits of the Initiative •The program put smiles on the faces of those who go through food insecurity. •The organization likes to ensure that they can feed as many people as they can •The program brought different categories of hungry people in the society, hence, creating a wonderful social interaction Purpose and Justification Our project would be helping Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin because it would increase their efficiency and rate of delivering food to those families and individuals that need it the most. Having additional volunteers would also allow the organization to focus their energy on something else like finding additional sponsors or communicating with companies so that they can receive even more food and help feed even more people.

Once our team sorts, packs, and labels the donated foods, they are eventually distributed to the families and individuals that need it, we would not only directly be helping the organization but also the people that rely on this organization to receive food. We would not be able to feed all the families in Eastern Wisconsin, as the supply of donated foods would run low but if need be our team could be assigned another shift to contact places where they receive their donated foods from. This project is important because it is a chain reaction, with more volunteers more sorting, packing and labeling can get done than usual. As more of that gets done then more food is being distributed to families and individuals and eventually the organization encounters a decrease in the food supply.

Once the food supply is low most efforts of trying to feed families and individuals in Eastern Wisconsin come to a halt because they need to gather more food. Service Delivery •”51% of all food programs rely entirely on volunteers •Each year, about 20,000 volunteers give their time to help at the organization •Time adds up to about 70,000 hours Additional Ways To Give • Through funds (donating money), 97% of these funds go directly towards hunger-relief programs • Giving food to the organization by hosting food drives or even virtual food drives • Giving time by volunteering at the facility and sorting, labeling, and packing donated foods

•The donors •The organization Stakeholders •Volunteers •The people who receive the food How we would have helped stakeholders Donors are stakeholders in this project because they want to know that the food they are donating is being put to good use. When donors are told that the organization tends to run low on food supply quick then they will donate more food or even communicate with other donors to see if they would like to be a part of donating foods to the organization. Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin is also a stakeholder because they entrust their volunteers; whatever their volunteers achieve during their shift that is an achievement that organization reflects as whole. The volunteers are stakeholders as well because they have interest in helping the organization achieve their goal of feeding families in Eastern Wisconsin.

Volunteers are at the organization for the sole purpose of of helping the organization feed as many families as they can. The last stakeholders would be the people who receive the food from the organization because they rely on it as a food source. Once they receive the food their food insecurity is laid to rest for a little bit. Student 1 I have always enjoyed volunteering for organizations that deal with delivering food to those who suffer from food insecurity. This would not be my first time volunteering at a place where I do so and it is true that when you are handing them over a plate of food or bags filled with food they crack a smile and are extremely grateful. Had the volunteering actually occurred I know it would have been a memorable experience. We would not have been the only volunteers there so it would have been really nice to see all the people that take time out of their days to help out an organization that is trying to help their community by feeding individuals and families that go through food insecurity.

Student 2 Volunteering is giving your time to others, that feeling makes me happy to be part of volunteering . It makes me realized that are many people out there who need us and humanity comes out with the feeling of pleasure. Having fed hungry with food was a wonderful experience and it is not the first time to do an activity like this, I really enjoyed helping with food served and that was my main point of choosing the Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin. Student 3 I believe that volunteering is very important to help a lot of organizations run since they are non-profits. I have always thought of myself as a person who helps others before worrying about myself. By volunteering I am helping people and doing good deeds for others. If the volunteering had happened, we would have had a great time and really enjoyed the experience. From my personal experience of volunteering at a Milwaukee food pantry, I felt a sense of community and felt like I was doing a great thing for all kinds of people. By helping others it makes you feel like you are doing your part to create a better community that will support each other. Student 4 Volunteering is very important to help organizations reach their goals. I enjoy volunteering and helping others in need because taking a short time of my day can help change people’s lives. The event was joyful, we helped by preparing and packaging food for the people in need and handing it to them. I felt so glad knowing I put a smile on their faces. Volunteering gave me a different perspective of life by giving a little of what I have to help make a difference. Helping and supporting others can help bring our community together to face the issue of hunger. Student 5 Volunteers are important people because they are committed to the organization’s to preserve society. I like volunteering and my favorites part is to support people who need help. The event was quite a wonderful one and easy to connect with Iike how we feed the homeless people who need help by cocking, preparing the food, and packaging the food for them too.it was a good experience to feed starving families and kids. I am so glad to give people a chance to ask me to help them without any hesitate.it’s one of my biggest reasons to volunteer how nice it’s when I see the smile in there face when they get their food especially the kids. I am blessed that I get the chance to help people who are important in our society.
