Since nursing is not a stagnant career, it is a recommendation that practicing registered nurses should work on keeping up with new procedures, treatments, processes, and technology to improve their nursing skills further. To achieve this level of professionalism, nurses in the MSN program need to apply some academic resources and strategies that will enable them better their practice in the professional market. As a student taking on the MSN program, I managed to highlight several academic resources that I will apply while undertaking the program to help me make the best of my learning at this institution. ACADEMIC RESOURCE/STRATEGY 1 Nursing Research Databases/ academic student advisors– having a database enriched with information about nursing practices and procedures in an institution offering MSN is an added advantage. Having these databases as an academic resource, I can use to access information at my convenience and brush up on the areas of practice I might have had challenges during my time in preparation. My strategy is to ensure that I access the Medline database to follow up on research on the nursing practice. The database also offers recent articles on routine practices and process carries out by nurses globally. Using the academic advisors whenever I have a question. Task: Adult Gerontology Acute Care
They really focus on empower readiness to success in the online program. ACADEMIC RESOURCE/STRATEGY 2 Library –Learning Center, having all learning material for a program proves efficient to students as it becomes easier to access scholarly content applicable to the course. I plan on spending more time in the institution’s library perusing through nursing books and articles to take advantage of the knowledge in nursing shared in the books.
My strategy in achieving more hours spent in the library is ensuring that I visit the library at least twice a week. Being a practicing nurse means I will result to spending part of my free time at the library and making it a habit to visit the place often. ACADEMIC RESOURCE/STRATEGY 3 Student disability services – having student disability services incorporated into the MSN program will improve the program as it is likely to increase the recognition of disabled practicing nurses into the program. The inclusion of these services will help me become more compliant with offering disabled services at any given Healthcare facility since I will have attained the knowledge to go about providing nursing services to a disabled individual. PROFESSIONAL RESOURCE/STRATEGY 1 The American Nurses Association – AMA provides a professional resource for MSN program students looking forward to having an insurance policy. AMA provides a platform for nursing students to acquire liability insurance as they practice their career acting as security in the event a nurse wants to obtain financial support to further their studies to improve their nursing skills. The resource will help in my practice as it will help in easing the financial responsibility of going back to school as a father to two children. PROFESSIONAL RESOURCE/STRATEGY 2 American Association of Critical Care Nurses – this association aims at ensuring all the member nurses receive the necessary certification to offer critical care to patients at different healthcare centers. My strategy is to gain membership in this association to acquire the essential certification to provide acute care to patients. Task: Adult Gerontology Acute Care
The certification will benefit me in my practice since I will become eligible for offering nursing care to critically ill patients comfortably as I will have attained the required knowledge and certification by utilizing the resource. PROFESSIONAL RESOURCE/STRATEGY 3 Association of Perioperative Registered Nurses – the AORN foundation offered interested registered nurses scholarships to accredited institutions to further their studies, and also provide grants to members. As a registered nurse interested in improving my nursing skills by taking on the MSN program, my strategy is to become a member of this foundation to take advantage of the scholarships offered by the foundation. Task: Adult Gerontology Acute Care
The awards act as a platform to learn more about nursing at an institution chosen by the foundation, which will, in the long run, help me succeed in my career in nursing. ADDITIONAL RESOURCES/STRATEGIES Conclusion In conclusion, the inclusion of the academic resources I mentioned above in the MSN program will make it easier for nursing students in the program to obtain the necessary information and knowledge on all things nursing at the institution. As one of the students undertaking the course, I plan on fully executing the strategies aiming at improving my quality of work in the nursing department. I intend to make use of the stated academic and professional resources to seek a new ground to practice and also as a means to obtain help in the process of developing my career as a nurse in general.
