Since nursing is not a stagnant career, it is a recommendation that practicing registered nurses should work on keeping up with new procedures, treatments, processes, and technology to improve their nursing skills further. As a student taking on the MSN program, I managed to highlight several academic resources that I will apply while undertaking the program to help me make the best of my learning at this institution. ACADEMIC RESOURCE/STRATEGY 1 Nursing Research Databases/ academic student advisors– having a database enriched with information about nursing practices and procedures in an institution offering MSN is an added advantage. Having these databases as an academic resource, I can use to access information at my convenience and brush up on the areas of practice I might have had challenges during my time in preparation. My strategy is to ensure that I access the Medline database to follow up on research on the nursing practice. My strategy in achieving more hours spent in the library is ensuring that I visit the library at least twice a week. Being a practicing nurse means I will result to spending part of my free time at the library and making it a habit to visit the place often. ACADEMIC RESOURCE/STRATEGY 3 Student disability services – having student disability services incorporated into the MSN program will improve the program as it is likely to increase the recognition of disabled practicing nurses into the program. The inclusion of these services will help me become more compliant with offering disabled services at any given Healthcare facility since I will have attained the knowledge to go about providing nursing services to a disabled individual. PROFESSIONAL RESOURCE/STRATEGY 1 The American Nurses Association – AMA provides a professional resource for MSN program students looking forward to having an insurance policy. AMA provides a platform for nursing students to acquire liability insurance as they practice their career acting as security in the event a nurse wants to obtain financial support to further their studies to improve their nursing skills. The resource will help in my practice as it will help in easing the financial responsibility of going back to school as a father to two children.
