Task: Personal Nursing Philosophy Reflection.
A nursing philosophy is a guiding document that helps a nurse focus her career and set achievable goals. It can be an intimidating process to condense all your hopes and dreams about nursing into one simple paper. However, I feel that I would have been lost as a nurse if I did not use my philosophy to set a plan for myself. This brief reflection will explain how my career plans have changed and how my philosophy has changed over the years.

Two Year Plan
My two-year plan of obtaining my BSN from UTA has not changed as I am close to completing that goal. I set out to study hard and absorb as much new information as possible to prepare me for career growth. I am honored and feel accomplished as I am now less than one week away from being a bachelor’s educated nurse.
Five Year Plan
My five-year plan of focusing on educational growth has slightly changed as I would like to focus more on clinical practice. For the past few years, I have worked in nursing case management, a role that is outside of the clinical setting. Throughout this program, I have learned about many different practices that I would like to gain experience with. For example, I would like to return to work in the clinical setting because I have learned better ways to assess and educate patients. I now understand the significance of meeting the patient on their level by building rapport and trust to ensure their fears and concerns are properly addressed. The second change is that I feel that I should wait longer than five years to advance my education because more nurses are needed in the clinical setting. Education is something that will always be available, but I feel that it is my duty to help my community by returning to more direct patient care.
Ten Year Plan
This nursing program has made me realize that nursing administration may not be my ultimate goal anymore. Seeing the growing nursing shortage, I feel a responsibility to help the younger generation reach their nursing goals. I want to teach empowerment, courage, and compassion to new nurses. Most importantly, I want to help them feel confident that the knowledge they have acquired in nursing school has prepared them for patient care practice.
Personal Philosophy Expansion
I have added the topics of mentor and educator to my personal nursing philosophy. I am a firm believer in the concept that a team is only as great as its weakest link. In the world of nursing, the weakest links are recent nursing graduates. At the same time, these graduates are also the future of nursing. I believe that more experienced nurses should work to mentor and teach newer nurses as much as possible. I used to have an unfortunate habit of teaching by observation only because I knew I could get things done faster and in the way I needed them completed. However, this program has helped me see how that behavior has handicapped any nurses I was training. Moving forward, I want to teach nurses through guidance and allowing them the opportunity to work through their training. I want to be more of the observer so I can offer constructive criticism. Additionally, I also feel that my personal career growth should take a back seat for the greater good. I wanted to go into nursing administration to affect policy change. However, this program has shown me several alternate ways to be involved in policy reform without being a nurse administrator. Task: Personal Nursing Philosophy Reflection.
Lifelong Learning
I do consider myself to be a lifelong learner because the healthcare field is one that is forever changing. There will always be a greater way to improve practices and improve the safety and quality of care that patients receive. Nursing if a field that requires flexibility and that can only be accomplished by having the mindset that you are always ready to learn. Task: Personal Nursing Philosophy Reflection.
Conclusion
I am so grateful for the opportunity to advance my nursing career. This program has helped me grow as a person and it has helped me better focus my personal nursing philosophy. I have rekindled my passion of service to others and I plan to complete that service as diligently as possible. Task: Personal Nursing Philosophy Reflection.
