1.What was the primary reason for the visit?

The primary reason for her visit is due to postpartum and the patient in the scenario was looking for birth control.

2.What is the Keyword you will use to look up the primary reason? –

Postpartum or ICD-10-CM Diagnosis Code F53.0 to search the reason of the patient’s visit. There is a possibility of using the code postpartum necrosis of pituitary gland (E23.0) as well to talk about the postpartum.

ORDER CUSTOM, PLAGIARISM-FREE PAPER

3. What other problem, if any, need to be coded?

Another code for Birth control ICD-10-CM Diagnosis Code Z30.011 can be used to note the conversation about taking contraceptives to ensure the patient will not have another child until next following year.

4. What indexes do you need to use to determine code selection?

For this scenario, I would use index “P terms” and scroll until you see “Postpartum”.

5. How the questions you answered are used in the reimbursement cycle?

Healthcare providers are paid by insurance or government payers through a system of reimbursement. After you receive a medical service, your provider sends a bill to whoever is responsible for covering your medical costs (Torrey, 2020). In this scenario, the patient would be billed for the visit and then pay for the birth control through a local pharmacy.

6. What was your overall experience doing this coding activity? (challenging, easy, fearful, fun, educational, etc.,)

My overall experience doing this coding activity was very informative. This website was very user –friendly and was able to locate the proper codes without going through too many channels. Each code provided a description expressing what the code means and why it is used. The activity was fun and different from other discussion topics we have had.

Peer 2:

What is the primary reason for the visit?

The primary reason for the visit is for a routine, post-partum follow-up examination.

What is the keyword you will use to look up the primary reason?

On the provided resource link, you would use the term post-partum and search to find the applicable code. If using the Alphabetical index, the appropriate code is under:

Examination
Postpartum
Routine follow-up Z39.2
What other problem, if any, need to be coded?

Since an initial prescription of oral contraceptives was given, the following needs to be coded:

Encounter for initial prescription of contraceptive pills, Z30.011

What indexes do you need to use to determine code selection?

You would use the Alphabetical Index to find the alphanumeric code for the problem you are coding for, and then cross reference the code in the Tabular index to confirm there are no other special uses or requirements needed to satisfy justification for using that code.

How the questions you answered are used in the reimbursement cycle?

According to the code details, both codes (Z39.2 and Z30.011), are billable diagnosis codes able to be used for reimbursement purposes.

What was your overall experience doing this coding activity?

A little bit of a review. Easy. As an Independent Enlisted Medical Provider in the military, we were required to code all of our own encounters and you would get a message from the coder if it was done inappropriately. Then, that coding situation was added to that month’s coding training. Although, I haven’t performed this task in any capacity probably for close to five years now.
