  • Examine strategies to evaluate the effectiveness of the new technology and system. Answer the following questions:
  • How can you determine if it is the right technology to use?
  • How can you determine if it integrates well with existing technology?
  • How can you determine if the system is intuitive or easy to use for the users?
  • How can you determine the cost and benefits of the technology and system?
  • Explain your role and responsibilities as a manager in the evaluation of technology in health care.
  • Identify data sources used to evaluate the effectiveness of implemented technology.

Technology Evaluation Chart

Complete the table below by identifying the selected trends in health care technology. Take into consideration how an organization might go about choosing, acquiring, implementing, and integrating the selected technology into existing systems and business processes.

Healthcare Technology Trends

Technology trend Describe the use and purpose of the selected technology in health care.

(75 to 150 words)

Explain how the technology may be used in a health care organization (devices, platforms, applications, cloud based vs. local or network database, etc.)

(75 to 150 words)

Explain the benefits of the chosen technology (patient benefits and organizational benefits, such as efficiency, portability, etc.)

(75 to 150 words)

Describe how the technology can be evaluated for its impact on the health care organization (patient perspective, organizational perspective) (75 to 150 words)
Telemedicine Telemedicine involves the dissemination of health instructions through electronic devices such as phones and laptops (Waller & Stotler, 2018). The purpose of the technology is to ensure that patients and providers can interact without necessarily meeting. Telemedicine is an aspect of telehealth that enhances continuity of health and more importantly, increases virtual connection between the patient and the health provider. In addition, telemedicine has promoted interaction between the patient and the providers during the pandemic when social distance was necessary. Telemedicine is a technology that encompasses video or phone appointments between the healthcare practitioner and the patient. It involves the distribution of healthcare services via electronic or telecommunication devices (Waller & Stotler, 2018). Telemedicine enables virtual contact between the patient and the provider. Moreover, it enables the provider to monitor the patient, educate them, and more importantly, contact them if need be. Telemedicine also allows for remote admission and empowers the patient to take control of their health. The technology enhances connection between the patient and the provider. It reduces the impact of barriers like distance and cost. In addition, it enables the provider to monitor the patient at the comfort of their home (Waller & Stotler, 2018). It also empowers the patient to take charge of their care. For the organization, telemedicine reduces the number of patients visiting the facility. It allows the organization to focus only on individuals that are seriously in need of the doctor’s attention. The technology can be evaluated using various strategies. The first is to assess the quality of interaction between the patient and the provider. A good interaction is that which the communication between the parties is seamless and efficient (Waller & Stotler, 2018). Secondly, the technology will be judged by its user-friendliness. A user –friendly system is easy to use for different kinds of people regardless of their age and quality of education. The patient outcome is another aspect that needs to be assessed. A successful telemedicine venture will improve the patient outcomes.
Healthcare robots Medical robots are critical in the modern healthcare provision. They assist with a wide array of aspects including surgery and enabling the medical providers to grant more direct attention to the patients (Khan & Anwar, 2019). Medical robots also play a vital role in streamlining hospital logistics. Particularly, robots have replaced human labor especially in areas where precision was required. Researchers believe that robots have improved quality of care and more importantly, patient outcomes. Robots have also come in handy in carrying and movement of medical equipment. The most common robotic application in the healthcare system is surgery. In addition, surgery is the most successful robotic application in the healthcare system. Besides surgery, robotic application has been seen in different other areas including medical transportation, rehabilitation, and telepresence (Khan & Anwar, 2019). Medical robots have also been used in sanitation and prescription dispensing. Robots are primarily used in repetitive tasks like medication delivery and patient movement across different parts of the organization. Robots also aid in patient education. The technology has several benefits to the patients and healthcare system in general. For instance, it increases the level of precision particularly in surgeries. Essentially, this has positive implications for the healthcare outcomes in general. The technology also increases the much-needed efficiency and effectiveness in healthcare (Khan & Anwar, 2019). It ensures that burdensome work such as transportation of medical equipment happens with ease and efficiency. The organization does not have to employ a lot of people, which essentially means that it saves a lot of money that could have otherwise been used for wages. The evaluation for its effectiveness would focus on several aspects including the accuracy of performance. The accuracy will be judged with how effective the robot performs its role. The evaluation will also be done based on the mechanical resilience of the robot. The robot should be able to function well without major breakdowns or faults. Lastly, the patient outcome will also be a significant aspect of consideration. For instance, the quality of the surgery will be an evaluation aspect.
